About
Kristy Shea, Cake4Kids DC Ambassador
Tell us a little bit about yourself!
I have lived in DC since 2010, when I came here for a graduate program. I live in the District with my dog, Davis. Before moving to DC, I lived in my hometown, Sacramento, California. I stayed in DC to work in Federal government, but I love all the fun outdoor activities DC has to offer. When I’m not baking on weekends, I love kayaking, swimming, and taking the pup out hiking.
What inspired your love of baking?
My love of baking was inspired by decorating Christmas cookies as a kid. I’m not big on holidays, but I love classic sugar cookies with fun decorations. As an adult, once I re-discovered the fun of decorating holiday cookies, I was motivated to branch out to cupcakes and birthday cakes. During the COVID-19 pandemic, I spent more time investing in improving my skills and learning about different tools and techniques.
What’s your favorite thing to bake?
My favorite thing to bake is a classic chocolate layer cake. A chocolate cake will always feel decadent and celebratory!
