Unique Fact: Chicago’s Chicago River -- the one that famously gets dyed green every St. Patrick’s Day — is the only river in the world that flows backwards! The river naturally flowed into Lake Michigan, but in the 1900’s engineers reversed the flow of the river to combat pollution created during the city’s industrialization. In 1999, this feat was named the “Civil Engineering Monument of the Millennium”

Tell us a little about yourself!

A self-proclaimed baking enthusiast with a delightful obsession – I own not one, not two, but FIVE KitchenAid mixers! Each model has its own vibrant color and personality, and let’s be honest, some of them are more like decorative pieces than baking appliances!

My love for baking has always been tempered by my peculiar midnight munchies – who can resist the temptation to raid the kitchen at 2 AM? But that midnight snacking habit became a bit too much, until Cake4Kids came along! Now I can whip up sweet treats and share the joy with deserving children.

Nestled in the northern suburbs of Chicago, I have been happily married to Jeff for 30 wonderful years. Together, we’ve raised two fantastic daughters and are kept on our toes by our adorable mini-golden doodle, Finn.

What or who inspired your love of baking?

My Mom!!!

What’s your favorite thing to bake?

Bite Size Chocolate Chip Cookies. Even my Ford Bronco tire cover is a giant chocolate chip cookie!

Tell us a little about yourself!

When I’m not cooking or baking something I saw on Great British Bake Off, I’m caught up in a book. My Lebanese culture is a huge part of me and definitely contributed to my love of baking and cooking, as it’s a very culinarily rich culture. Feeding others has always made my heart warm, so I never pass up the opportunity to plan and host a party. Traveling also lights up my spirit and inspires me to be more creative in the kitchen. Some of my all-time favorite trips have included Istanbul, Belize, Costa Rica, and Greece.

What’s your favorite thing to bake?

My favorite thing to bake is a traditional Lebanese/Middle Eastern cookie called maamoul. It is a delicate, short bread cookie flavored with orange blossom and then filled with either dates or spiced pistachios or walnuts. It is traditionally made during Easter or other large religious holidays. Making these are a rite of passage and always make me feel so connected to my family and my culture. And, because they’re so difficult and made in large quantities for giving to neighbors, it’s always something families make together.
